good times ahead

tuesday

the road to new york

Did the recovery run this afternoon that I missed yesterday due to the sore left foot from the race, the foot felt much better today allowing me to do a nice 15 miler on a sunny comfortable day.  The first 9 miles were with my son and then added on 6 for good measure.  The miles are starting the creep up as this marathon training gets rolling, though the intensity in effort and miles won’t hit full stride til September.  Looks like my son found a nice place in Brooklyn to live off campus with friends for his second year at school, excited for him, and now I can stay a little longer after the marathon.

life is good on friday

friday

the road to new york

Yesterday’s storms didn’t wash away all the humidity, a sweaty 9 mile run with my son in the park and around the neighborhood, about to have dinner and ice cream on this beautiful Friday evening, life is good because the weekend is here or is it the weekend is here because life is good?

food party

saturday

the road to new york

A gastronomically glorious afternoon at the Taste of Buffalo after a mid-day 10 mile run with my son.  Had a hard time picking from so many choices, went with samplings of Thai summer rolls, dumplings, southern bbq, buffalo spiced burgers, curried fish hoagies, washing it down with some cherry vanilla brewed wheat beer and finished with some locally made ice cream cones and fruit ice.  We ran down to the festival but strolled the few miles back home.

a friday shakeout

friday

the road to new york

Breezier and more bearable than yesterday, a good 10 miler through the neighborhood and park trails.  Still feeling some nicks from Tuesday’s race, decided to cancel the track workout I’d planned for tomorrow, instead will go for another easy/recovery run with my son and head down to the Taste of Buffalo food fest, moving the track work to probably Monday.  Really looking forward to the ‘Taste’, every type of food to sample, from restaurants to food trucks, a foodie’s delight.

big events

thursday

the road to new york

Continued recovery from Tuesday’s 10k, 9 miles in the park on a muggy day.  Sultry.  Sweat soaked shirt.  The left hamstring was still a little tight but getting better, probably will cancel a track workout I was thinking about doing tomorrow.  Better to rest up over the weekend for a good workout on Monday to prep for next Friday’s Buffalo 4 mile Chase, a big race full of world class runners due to the prize money involved.  Since I have an abbreviated racing season before marathon training begins, I’d like to race well in that race.  And it’s the Taste of Buffalo this weekend, a huge delicious food festival, second only to Chicago’s, and the weekend before my son’s 19th birthday.  He and I try to celebrate his birthday at the festival every year, as he came into the world on the eve of the event 19 years ago.

running, canada & movies

sunday

the road to new york

A relaxing 8 miler with my son on this beautiful in-between Sunday between Canada Day and Independence Day, it’s one long celebratory weekend around here since we’re right on the border with Ontario.  We can even glimpse Toronto’s skyline from our side Lake Ontario when we go up to some of the northern suburbs.

A nice conversation during the run with my son about movies to see that are out currently –  on top of the list are ‘Baby Driver’ and ‘The Big Sick.’  It’s fun that he’s studying film making, we get to talk and watch film all the time.

day and nite

saturday

Took a rest day on Thursday, it was about time for a break after a couple of weeks of mileage build up, physically and mentally the body was asking for one.

Friday was a 10 miler with my son in the park, and nice run and conversation, his freshman year at college is going very well all around.

Pushed up the mileage this afternoon in the park to 14 miles, a little tired but a good longer run.  The temps in the 30’s made it more comfortable.  The run began at daylight and ended in the dark, making it feel like I’d been running all day.
