it's real

thursday

After another long day at the store, took a rest from running again yesterday.

Off from work today, catching up on sleep last night was godsend.  So today, on a mild spring-like day, got in 12 miles in the park. Felt so good!  The run and being outside in the park. Tons of people out in the park, like a festival but with people yards apart.  A strange site. A combination of joy and trepidation on people’s faces, definitely an undercurrent of concern.  I imagine some of the folks were currently out of a job or maybe have possible symptoms. As if in some science fiction scene, but it’s real.

spring bloom

sunday

A beautiful spring afternoon, sunny and in the 60’s, was perfect for a slow sightseeing recovery run of 10 miles in the park.  The easy slow run massaged the arms and legs sore from yesterday’s half. The park was full, everyone out on this first warm sunny day since what feels like forever, and even a street festival and music.  All the trees seemed to have bloomed overnight.

fast 4

sunday

14 miles in the park with son, 4 of which were in sub 6 minute mile pace.  It was a workout for the both of us, his first fast run since a 5k a couple weeks ago.  It’s always a bonding experience when the we do a race or a hard workout. This one also got us ready for a 5k coming up this Wednesday, the ‘Moonlight Run’, a night run that starts at 8 pm, it’s more like a festival, a huge party.

fried

sunday

11 miles in the park and the parkway back home.  The day got cloudy and cooler making it ideal for a nice Sunday run, it was sunny and warm earlier in the day during an annual arts and craft festival downtown.  They have carnival type food there and it’s an annual rite of mine to get fried dough there with my son, and we did so again this year. It’s something we’ve done since he was very little, and since he’s home from school for the summer we had to do it.  The 11 miler helped to burn off some of the fried dough.

vice irresistibly

sunday

A 7 mile recovery run with my son for yesterday’s 5k race, a recovery run for me and not him so had to slow him down – he’s a lot younger at 16.  As it happened, the local art festival was downtown, which we attend every year – mostly to get some (unhealthy) food there, as the ‘art’ is pretty much the same every year – so we ran there this year.  And as in the past, we split an order of fried dough topped with powdered sugar – an irresistible vice – and ran back home couple of miles as penance.
