My son left for New York today to move into his new digs in Brooklyn for the new year at college, a cool day that feels like October, got in a good 12 miler in the park. A 5k tomorrow evening that’s forecasted to be even cooler, with a Friday nite post race party in the neighborhood. Adding some miles beforehand. Took the plunge and agreed to run a couple of x-country races in September with an area club’s masters team, will be fun and will be incorporated into the month’s marathon training. No rest for the marathoner.
Did the recovery run this afternoon that I missed yesterday due to the sore left foot from the race, the foot felt much better today allowing me to do a nice 15 miler on a sunny comfortable day. The first 9 miles were with my son and then added on 6 for good measure. The miles are starting the creep up as this marathon training gets rolling, though the intensity in effort and miles won’t hit full stride til September. Looks like my son found a nice place in Brooklyn to live off campus with friends for his second year at school, excited for him, and now I can stay a little longer after the marathon.
Decided to sleep in a little this morning and skip the 5k, the legs and the rest of the body feeling the effects of this week getting back into training. Instead, went for an afternoon 9 miler in the park. The legs were a little sore but can tell they’re getting stronger. A pleasant afternoon, getting warmer but the breeze cooled things off.
Excited for tomorrow, my son’s coming home for the summer after completing freshman year at NYU, can’t believe it’s already 8 months since dropping him off in New York. Happy.
Took a rest day on Thursday, it was about time for a break after a couple of weeks of mileage build up, physically and mentally the body was asking for one.
Friday was a 10 miler with my son in the park, and nice run and conversation, his freshman year at college is going very well all around.
Pushed up the mileage this afternoon in the park to 14 miles, a little tired but a good longer run. The temps in the 30’s made it more comfortable. The run began at daylight and ended in the dark, making it feel like I’d been running all day.
10 miles with my son this evening, cold, windchill near 0 F, a great run, hadn’t run with him in a while since he’d been away at college. Good that we’re both in shape so that no one had to speed up for the other. We’ll be doing more runs before he heads back to NYC. Now having dinner. That’s all, simply a nice Friday night, hope yours is too.
Felt good today during the 10 mile run, better than expected, especially after a tired run yesterday, just don’t know how you’re going to feel from day to day sometimes. Maybe the weather helped, it was cold but not as windy as yesterday, or maybe the inspiring playlist before the run. Whatever it was, the run was easy and carefree along the parkway, alongside the Friday evening traffic anticipating the weekend. Got a call from my son yesterday, he’s coming home for winter break earlier than expected, next weekend, his program is mostly final projects instead of final exams so he avoids finals week this semester. Great news.
Got back late afternoon from visiting Adam at NYU, tired but got in a ‘recovery’ 10 miler on a cool evening. Taper week starts, the training feels on track for Sunday’s Half. This is all I have the energy to post tonight, I’ll leave you with some pics from Parents Weekend…
