goal race: Buffalo Marathon 5/29

Really really encouraged by this morning’s run/race at the Shamrock 8k.  Ran it a lot faster than expected and in control most of the way, finished in 27:46, 5:35/mile pace, 11th overall, and an age grade of 86.61%.  Feeling absolutely giddy right now.

Went out conservatively – the smartest move of the morning – not expecting much speed in the legs due to the recent mileage, then started passing people, thinking ‘why are you guys letting me pass so easily,’ until settling on with a pack of former training partners around mile 3.5 and it was a foot race the rest of the way, and even had a little kick in the last couple hundred yards.

4 miles warm up, 5 miles race, 5 miles cool down, 14 for the day.  Still have a lot of work to do between now and the marathon, but today was a solid milestone.
