‘Hokahey, today is a good day to die!’

goal race: Buffalo Marathon 5/29

‘Hokahey, today is a good day to die!’ – Crazy Horse at the Battle of the Little Big Horn

And so an initially ordinary Saturday gave way to a memorable 16 mile run, with a 5 mile pick up/tempo, whatever you want to call it, in the middle, from mile 9 through 13, at slightly under 6 minute pace.  Was somewhat ambivalent about doing anything more than an easy pace today after yesterday’s mileage, but was moved by the energy from all the runners in the park so went for it.  Runners giving me thumbs up as we passed each other several times around the loop was very cool.   But the tempo run on tired legs nearly killed me.  My spirit was up, but the legs made sure to slow jog me the final 3 miles back home.  Now in pained ecstasy.
