beer and pizza, always a nice consolation prize

saturday

Got to the race too close to start time, maybe a little too relaxed this morning, by the time I picked up my number it was 10 minutes before the start.  And it was cold.  Still I felt pretty good at the start and went with a couple of youngsters – they looked to be in their early 20’s  – the leader took off and was gone, so ran with the 2nd fella for a couple of miles until the lactic acid build-up in my arms and legs.  Not warming up adequately came back to bite me in the 3rd mile.  And I was cold the entire way.

Finished 3rd overall in 16:51 – slightly disappointed in not beating last week’s 5k in 16:46 – had a good time post race – beer and pizza, what else do you need?  The race also benefited the local high school maritime academy kids, so that was nice.  With added miles afterwards, 8 miles for the day.

Not great not bad, today’s run will be a good warm up to next Thursday’s 120th Annual Turkey Trot.  Did I mention the beer and pizza?
