10 ‘easy’ miles in the park on a sunny but cold and breezy St Patrick’s day, lots of green walking and running around town. Feeling better than yesterday which was better than Sunday, the low point of the past week. The legs are getting gradually looser, and today’s run had some rhythm to it.
Part of the past week’s soreness, I think, is from, besides the mileage, running a lot on dry bare pavement. While it’s great for getting in some steady pace, the hard surface is definitely rougher on the body. Winter’s snowy surfaces and staying on grassy surfaces in the warmer months ease the pounding, but during these thawing months with the grass and trails being too muddy, the pavement is mostly it. Will just have to use all the pounding from asphalt as prep for upcoming half and maybe full marathons – when you get lemons, make lemonade, right?
