Couldn’t connect with the Saturday morning group, so ran 13 miles solo, with a 4 mile tempo @ 5:50 mile pace in the park, where it was packed with runners on this mild spring like morning. It’s supposed to rain today, so everyone, including me, was getting ahead of it.
It was great to see so many people out in the park, but a part of me misses the quiet desolate setting it had been throughout this arctic winter. Like a little restaurant that only you and a circle of friends once knew but is now a hit, or that once pathetic professional sports team – like a certain team that has the suffix ‘Nation’ – that you’ve always loved but now is mobbed by bandwagons.
No no, I love the crowd and the festive atmosphere, spring, sun, warmth…it’s just that with all the gain, a little something is lost.
