‘heavenly’ playlist

thursday

12 miles (2 miles longer than intended, but felt good during run) to downtown Buffalo and back up around park trails.  Got warmer as the run progressed, and by the end was very humid.  Supposed to get progressively cooler over the weekend and through next week, just in time to start training for the upcoming series of cross country races.

More musings from last Sunday…so I never wear a music device during a race (very rarely during any run, I count on one hand the number of times I have) for obvious reasons.  But I have learned to ‘play’ songs – those oft-heard on a current playlist – fairly clearly in my head during long runs (over 10) and long races (the Half and up), especially when I am forced to run by myself and keep a sub 6 minute/mile pace over many miles.

Last Sunday, the mental playlist began with Blink 182’s ‘All the Small Things’ in the first few miles, then The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’ for the next few miles, then unexpectedly inspired and finished the last 5 miles with REM’s ‘Near Wild Heaven.’  Maybe running through a scenic country road surrounded by Fall foliage evoked a ‘heaven’ theme.  Incidentally ‘Near Wild Heaven’ was about the time the three deer came out of the woods and paced me for a mile…

I use my iphone for easy workouts. Hard/tempo/long workouts I never do, and for races is just out of the question.
But I do play songs in my head, even sings at times, out loud, a lot of embarrassing moments.
    Have a nice weekend!

I have to be careful what songs I listen to the morning of a run or race, they will sometimes get stuck in my head during the run. Have a great weekend as well, good luck at the Half!
