Decided to repeat Tuesday’s track workout – 6 x 600 meters w/200 meter jog rest – not because I like fast 600 meter repeats, but because they are hard. That additional half lap after 400 meters makes it so much more painful than doing just 400 meters. 600 meter repeats are a great anaerobic prep for anaerobic laden races like a 5k or 5 miles. These are the races that get you into oxygen debt – it feels like you’re suffocating.
The humidity was way down from Tuesday and the temps lower as well, and the performance reflected this:
Tuesday’s results: The six 600 meters were in 2:02, 2:02, 2:01, 2:01, 2:00, 2:02
Today: 2:01, 1:59, 1:58, 1:57, 1:55, 1:56
Though painful, I felt in control for most of the workout, even with a decent headwind in one direction. Happy about getting faster on each rep (except for the last one). This was a good one, so decided not to spoil it with an extra rep. On a workout like this, you leave on a high note and do not look back.
And very encouraging, especially after last night’s merriment at the JP Morgan Corp Challenge’s volunteers party. Happy Friday everyone!
