The weather was fine, in the upper 30’s with a slight breeze, had a decent night of sleep, I thought, but felt flat and legs heavy all morning before the start of Canisius College Shoes for Shelter 5k. Didn’t get any better at the start or any part of the race. Struggled in at 17:01, nearly 30 seconds slower than last year’s best. 8th overall, 1st master finisher, but the time was significantly off-target, so like a blow out in a game between evenly matched teams, going to chalk it off to a bad day. The one bright spot was going out with the lead pack and hitting the 1st mile in 5:08. Thought the legs might loosen up here, but it was downhill (performance-wise) from there.
On the bright side, the event was a lot of fun, hanging out with the Buffalo running community, shooting the breeze, comparing races and training. And won a running shoe shaped chocolate for winning the age group, and like last year, will give it to my son after his high school track season.
