The temps ever so inching up, reached the upper 20’s today. The accompanying lengthening of daylight and sunny skies allowed for one less layer of gear for my weekly Thursday set of intervals around a hilly 1.8 mile loop in Delaware Park.
The usual set: 5 x 3 minutes @ 5 minute mile pace with 2 minute jog rest in between, continuously around the loop. Ran it fast and felt fast, both up and down the hills, the less layer of clothing freeing up the strides a bit. Oh and it was painful, all of it, lungs, muscles, joints, the brain,…but wonderfully so.
With the 3 mile warm up/ 3 mile cool down, the entire run totaled 10 miles, I think the third 10 miler in as many days. The mileage is getting consistent and, along with a couple of early races and consistent interval workouts, helping to set a good healthy base for the rest of the year.
